Welcome Back letter from Principal Burdette

Dear Park Hill Families,

Welcome back to Park Hill for the 2017-18 school year! I am very excited to begin my 3rd year as the Principal of Park Hill Elementary and to continue this important work in such a special community.  Our school thrives on a great teaching staff, amazing students, and very supportive and involved families.  Please take the time to connect with our active PTSA if you are new to our school or are returning and are looking for a way to get more involved. Each classroom also welcomes volunteers and will have a room parent for additional support and communications.  Jen Moylett (Assistant Principal) and I thank you in advance for your ongoing support of Park Hill and all our students.

As is customary in education, we have a few staff changes for the 2017-18 school year.  It is with great enthusiasm that I introduce our newest staff members.  We welcome Michelle (Belle) Newman to our ECE program, Katie Main to our 3rd grade team, Tory Corcoran and Meredith Strumor to our 4th grade team, and Eric Cowen to our 5th grade team.  Dorsey Davenport (former ECE teacher at PHE) has transitioned with our team to a Teacher Leader role.  As a reminder, we have expanded our 4th and 5th grade teams, making Park Hill a full capacity school at 4 classes per grade and 675 students total, including ECE.

In addition, we welcome two new members to our Specials’ team – Rachel Young will teach Dance and Lynn Pravecek will teach Art.  Both Rachel and Lynn bring vast experience to our school and our students, and we are excited to have them join our school.  We also welcome Destiny Perez to our main office support staff.

The building looks great thanks to the hard work of our custodial team led by Fred Parker. We appreciate the hard work of his crew: Lloyd, Morgan, and JoJo.  They did a great job working over the summer and ensuring we are ready for the start of the school year. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated team that supports our students and their daily learning.

PLEASE NOTE THIS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL RETURNING AND NEW FAMILIES (including registered Kindergarten and ECE students):   All students need to complete the registration process either on-line by August 11th or in person on August 9th between 9 am and 5 pm in the cafeteria.

We are encouraging families to complete the registration process this school year on-line by August 11 through parent portal. If you are not signed up for parent portal follow these steps:

1.     Visit https://myportal.dpsk12.org

2.     Click on the “Getting Started” tab.

3.     Fill out the online form completely.  You will need an email address to complete the process.

If you are unable to register on-line, we will have a paper registration day in the Park Hill cafeteria on August 9th from 9 am to 5 pm.

We will host a community clean-up day on August 12th in an effort to beautify our Park Hill school for the upcoming school year. Please also note the ECE Meet and Greet on August 16th at 4 pm and the Kindergarten Meet and Greet also on August 16th at 6 pm, as well as the Back-To-School Night Social on August 24th (Thursday) from 4:30 pm – 6:45 pm – More details to come.  Lastly, if you have pre-purchased school supply “Toolboxes” they will be distributed to the classroom the first day of school.

  • GRADES 1 – 5:   Monday, August 21st from 7:55 am to 2:45 pm
  • KINDERGARTEN:   Tuesday, August 22nd from 12:30 pm to 2:45 pm
  • ECE:   Tuesday, August 22nd – AM Classes from 7:55 am to 10:35 am
  • ECE:   Tuesday, August 22nd – PM Classes from 12:05 pm to 2:45 pm

 

We encourage you to volunteer at our school and become part of our active parent organization. We welcome your help and support. Use our website and our app to keep informed about upcoming calendar items as we continue to go as paperless as possible (www.parkhillelementary.org).   We will strive to send all school information in just one Friday email blast to our families.  Our CSC meets the second Thursday of the month from 4pm-5:30 pm, with PTSA meetings to follow at 5:30 pm. NOTE FROM OUR PTSA:

The PTSA at Park Hill Elementary wants to wish you a warm welcome to the 2017-2018 school year. We have an amazing school community, and we hope to provide an opportunity for you to get involved to ensure that our children have every opportunity to succeed. We wanted to provide the following reminders and updates, but also feel free to reach out to us directly with any questions or ideas. We look forward to meeting you!

• Back to School Night and Popcorn Social:  this annual event will be held on Thursday, August 24th.

 

• PTSA Membership: Membership is $15 and there is no volunteer commitment associated with membership, though we welcome your involvement. Join at the PTSA booth at Back to School Night or fill out a form online or in the school office.

• PTSA Meetings: Our monthly meetings are held the 2nd Thursday of every month at 5:30 p.m. in the library. Childcare is provided. Please join us for our first meeting September 14th!

We are looking forward to a fantastic year, watching our children continue to learn and grow! Join us in our efforts by attending events, volunteering for activities, raising funds and participating in the wonderful community that is Park Hill Elementary.
