Park Hill Fall 2017 Enrichment Packet and Registration Information

Before registering, please check HERE and the Park Hill School Fall Enrichment 2017 registration packet link below for any updates and/or corrections.  Please note:  the registration packet is a PDF file, so in order to register successfully, please retype each vendor registration link in your search engine space bar.

Registration begins Friday, September 8 at 3:00 pm and will end Monday, September 18.  Please see Vendor instructions for registration instructions.

Remember some of our vendors require you to register by mail, email or phone.

Complete and turn in the Release of Liability and Emergency Form to the school office no later than Friday, September 22.   Enrichment Classes begin the week of September 25 and will end the week December 4 (please see class details for specific dates).

All scholarship requests are due in the school office by Friday, September 15. Please remember to register with vendor before submitting your scholarship request.

 Gifted Program

The Highly Gifted Program was developed in 1985 for students in grades 1 through 8 who may have these characteristics and extraordinary abilities, potential or academic needs. It is a full-day program in magnet sites designed for students who need the support and challenge provided by specifically trained teachers and other students with advanced or unique abilities and academic needs.

How to Apply: Students must apply centrally for consideration and testing for this program. Parents, teachers, or anyone who knows the student may nominate him/her, and students may self-nominate. Nomination forms are available at http://gt.dpsk12.org.

Magnet Applications are due by 5pm October 6 to the GT Department (not to GT teachers).

Destination Imagination

Denver Public Schools is proud to bring Destination Imagination to your school! Destination Imagination is preparing Colorado’s kids to be the innovators of the future by combining the arts, sciences, and technology with creativity, teamwork, and problem solving.

Kind Campaign Movie Event     

Park Hill will be hosting a Kindness Campaign movie showing on Thursday, September 21 from 5:30-7:00 pm in the Park Hill Elementary Auditorium.

The event is open to all Park Hill students and families (the content in this film is intended for 3rd grade students and older).

The purpose of this event is to build community, strengthen our “getting along skills,” and continue to prepare our students for middle school and beyond!

The Lost & Found has a New Location

Visit the old Lost & Found location and you will find…Ms. Fraser’s classroom! Don’t leave items there! This is her working space! If you head to the gym, take a left towards the ECE/First/Kinder rooms, you will see the new spot. It is marked with a big sign. You can’t miss it! Please read the Lost & Found policy while you are there. Due to lack of space in the school, the Lost & Found is smaller this year. Items will be donated quicker than usual. The best way to get your items back is to LABEL everything!

Free Library!!

Have you seen the Free Library at the top of the stairs? If you are heading up towards the library you will pass right by it. Please feel free to donate your gently used books so others can enjoy them. If you happen to be a parent who buys books at garage sales or Goodwill, please help by adding high interest books to our library.  Also – take a few with you as you go! There are books for all ages – and maybe it would be nice to add any books that you, as an adult, have enjoyed as well.

Save the Date – 5th Grade Talent Show

The 5th Grade Talent Show is scheduled for November 16th!!  We need parent volunteers to run and facilitate this awesome event!  If you are interested, please sign up at  http://laurenmcclellandmusic.weebly.com/5th-grade-talent-show.html

Park Hill School Spirit Week – September 25 – 29!

Mark your calendars for our Park Hill School Spirit Week – September 25-29! This is an opportunity for our students – plus teachers and staff – to show their pride in our school and community. Please remind your student that they can wear school-appropriate accessories/outfits for each of the following theme days:

  • Monday, September 25: Sports Day – Wear a jersey, t-shirt, or colors to support your favorite sports team.
  • Tuesday, September 27: Wacky Socks & Wild Hair Day
  • Wednesday, September 28: Favorite Book Character Day-Dress up as your favorite book character. If you have it, please bring the book to share with your class.
  • Thursday, September 29: Hat Day – For one day, and one day only, students will be allowed to wear HATS at school!
  • Friday, September 30: Park Hill Panther Pride Day

Park Hill PTSA Updates:

PTSA Meeting

Please join us for our first PTSA meeting of the school year on Thursday September 14, 2017 at 5:30 pm in the school library!  Learn about the PTSA’s plans for fundraising and community building for the upcoming year, meet some of Park Hill’s wonderful parents, teachers, and administrators, and maybe even sign up to volunteer for a committee or event.  You’ll be glad you did!  Please note meetings this year will be the SECOND Thursday of the month at 5:30 instead of the first Thursday as they have been for the last several years.  Childcare will be provided.  There will be a discussion of the newly updated PTSA bylaws, which can be previewed here: http://parkhillptsa.com/proposed-bylaws; and the meeting agenda can be previewed here: http://parkhillptsa.com/meetings/.

Direct Giving Fundraiser and Community Event  

SAVE THE DATE – Friday, September 15 starting at 5:00 pm! Direct Giving is one of Park Hill Elementary’s most important fundraisers of the year, and a super fun FREE community event. We’re screening The Secret Life of Pets outdoors and there will be bouncy houses and food trucks aplenty! This is open to everyone in the neighborhood, so please invite your friends, family, and neighbors! Although the event is free and everyone is encouraged to attend, this is the one event of the year where we ask those who are able to, please make a direct donation by cash, check, or credit card.  Teachers will have class wish lists, and all donations received that night have an immediate impact as they go directly to your child’s classroom and to additional school resources THIS YEAR.  If you would like to sign up to volunteer at this event, please go to:  www.SignUpGenius.com/go/409084CABA723A57-direct.

Playground Cleanup

Coffee with Ken

Principal Ken Burdette will be having the school year’s first “Coffee with Ken” informal information exchange with parents on Friday September 15, 2017 after morning drop-off at the picnic tables on the blacktop.  School board member Mike Johnson will also attend and Ken will discuss the highlights from Park Hill’s most recent student testing results.  Stop by for a cup of coffee to hear the latest school news and ask any questions you may have.  Coffee generously provided by Copper Door Coffee at 932 Jersey Street!

Auction Kick-off!!

Come one, come all – it is almost time to start the extensive planning for this school year’s PTSA Auction!  This year’s kick-off meeting will be on Sunday October 8 at 4:00 p.m. at Station 26 Brewery (7045 E. 38th Avenue).  There are many opportunities to volunteer in a variety of capacities — helping acquire auction items, marketing the event, obtaining sponsors, etc.  It is also a great way to meet and have some fun with other members of the Park Hill community, so please join us to learn what you can do to help!
