Park Hill Friday Folder, October 20, 2017

With all the crazy weather in the past few months, we have seen communities all around our nation affected. Many of these communities are in need of support, and our fifth graders have decided to offer assistance to a fellow AVID elementary school in Sheldon, Texas that was greatly impacted by Hurricane Harvey.  The school needs 436 pencil pouches, 3-ring binders and subject tab dividers. The students completed a math word problem that figured out the total cost for all of the supplies is roughly $2,500! The students brainstormed ideas about how to raise the money and have decided that a direct ask from all of the families at Park Hill would be best, most effective way.  After school on Oct. 16 – Oct. 20, from 2:45-3:05, the fifth graders will have a table on the black top where they can collect donations. Please stop by to ask them about the project and perhaps make a donation. If you do not make it to the table, you can always make a donation in the office. Just let the office staff know it is for the 5th grade fundraiser.  Thanks so much for your support!


Brandon J. Scott Photography will be back on Tuesday, September 24 for Picture Retake Day!  If your student was absent or you would like your student to have their picture retaken, please let their teacher know ASAP and send your student to school ready for retakes!  For those families who ordered pictures but want retakes, you do NOT need to bring your original picture packets back. We will post all new images on the School Gallery site on Nov 1.  As always, reach out to with questions or concerns.


We have active the attendance auto dialer.  If your student is marked absent at school, you will receive notification through the auto dialer.  Therefore, please notify the school office (it is not sufficient to just tell your child’s teacher), when you know your child will be absent from school, or more than 15 minutes late.  If you know your child is at school, but you receive an absence notification, please notify the office immediately.

There are multiple ways to notify the office of an absence.  You may stop by the office, call the Main School Phone and attendance line – 720-424-4910, or download the Park Hill Elementary mobile app. and report your absence there.

*PARENTS, It is ESSENTIAL that you pick up your child ON TIME.  Our vendors have other places they need to be and cannot stay to wait for late parents.  If you are consistently late, you may lose your spot.   Please check with your vendor for final pick up times and dates. 

Inclement weather policy:  Please have your student(s) listen for an announcement (or check with the office) at the end of the day in case of a location change. ALWAYS check the board outside of the office at pick up for any class room/location changes, especially if it is a bad weather day.

We will celebrate Halloween on October 31 with a parade starting at 1:30 pm and classroom parties afterwards.  We ask that you do not send your children in costumes depicting blood and/or gore or with any type of play weapon of any kind (guns, knives, light sabers, slingshots, bows and arrows, axes, swords, etc.).  In addition, we ask that we have NO CLOWN costumes please.  Remember that masks should be off while walking or biking to school for safety.  It is best if your child comes to school in regular school clothes and then change into their costumes at the designated time given by the classroom teachers.

THANKSGIVING LUNCH IN THE PANTHER CAFÉ, Wednesday November 8! (see schedule and reservation form below)
The Park Hill Elementary Thanksgiving Lunch is fast approaching (Wednesday, Nov. 8), and we need a few helpers to ensure a smooth event. If you are planning to join your child for lunch, perhaps you can also lend some time to help. If you are able, please sign up for a time slot to help in the lunchroom with dessert and drinks distribution/table washing/floor sweeping/general organizing of the chaos. Thank you!!


5th grade Talent Show is scheduled for November 16.  Auditions are currently underway.  We need to have all auditions completed by Friday, Oct. 20.  We have open time slots on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings next week BEFORE school.  Remind your student to SIGN UP on the signup sheet located at the water fountain by Mr. Ash’s room.  Contact Becky Taylor ( or Mrs. McClelland if you need alternate arrangements.


The music class now has a Facebook page called Musicians of Park Hill School

Families can enjoy pictures and videos of musical moments in music class.  Students with NO media/photo release will be honored.


Park Hill Community:

GPHC will be continuing the weekend food program this school year, in an effort to reduce food insecurity for students and provide additional nutritional support to help them be successful at school. The program provides a bag of food consisting of two breakfasts, two snacks, and at least two lunch items, including a fruit and a vegetable. Bags will be delivered to Park Hill Elementary on Thursdays for distribution to children on Thursday and/or Friday at the end of the school day.

Every student at Park Hill Elementary is able to participate in the program.  We only require a parent/guardian signature on the parent/guardian consent form to enroll in our program. Any family with a student at Park Hill Elementary may opt in or out of the program as they wish.

Request for Help with Teacher Appreciation “Wednesday Pick Me Ups”
Here is a simple way for our parent community to show appreciation to our teachers on a weekly basis. Please sign up to bring a sweet or savory treat or paper products on a Wednesday morning, or to come in after school and get everything cleaned up. These do not need to be breakfast items but can be. For savory, we were thinking things like veggies and dip or pretzels or anything “non-dessert-y.” Homemade or from the store. We would love to have your contribution in the teacher’s lounge around 7:45 AM. We ask they arrive in the morning so we do not have people in and out of the building throughout the day. Clean up could be right at dismissal at 2:45 PM. Sign up here:

Parent’s Night Out! November 10 from 5:30 to 9:00 pm
It’s that time again! You have worked hard all week – it’s time to give yourself a break while helping out the school. Hit the town while your child comes back to school for a totally NEW experience! This year – Students grades 1-5 will do activities together, and there are great options for the younger kids too! This year, our younger kids will be the in a kindergarten classroom where the environment is familiar to them and they’ll get their fair share of the pizza. Our main activities will be a dance in the cafeteria, movies in the auditorium, games in the gym and painting with Ceramics in the City! Your child will have so much fun – they won’t even know you are gone! Don’t wait too long to sign up– space is limited!
