Urgent Message From Principal Burdette

Dear Park Hill Families,

In alignment with Denver Public Schools, Park Hill Elementary will be closed this Friday, April 27.   Originally, this day was scheduled to be a half day in an effort to support the teachers and the state-wide rally for increased school funding. However, due to a concern district-wide regarding the number of available staff members, DPS has decided to close all schools for the day.

A few very important notes:

* School is officially closed on Friday, April 27. Unfortunately, this means we will not be serving breakfast or lunch.

* Discovery Link WILL have a program on Friday, April 27, for all registered Discovery Link students from 6:30 am – 6:00 pm. Please look for a communication from our DL team.

* The 5th grade Shakespeare Festival is ON.  Please look for a note from Ms. Mills with additional details.  Fifth graders who are participating in this event please be here on time.  Ms. Mills and her team will follow the original plans. Buses will be provided both ways.

* Parents Night Out (PNO) is still ON for Friday night. Our PTSA is hosting this event, and has sent a separate email to all of our families.

* Fund Run Information:  FUND RUN COLLECTION CHANGE!  Hey there, Fund Runners!  Due to the cancelling of school on Friday, envelopes with this  week’s donations need to be turned in by THURSDAY APRIL 26!  Prizes  will be given and winning classes announced on Monday.  Remember, you’re  competing for Homework Passes this week!  Your class still has a chance
to win the Pizza Party!  Thanks for your hard work!  We’re already 30% of our way to our goal.  Keep going, Park Hill Panthers!

We know that this change in schedule causes a serious inconvenience to many of our students and families. Please accept my apology for these last minute changes.  Thank you for your continued support and understanding of PHE as a whole.

Park Hill Friday Folder Bulletin, April 20, 2018

Dear Park Hill families,

As we have been communicating with you, DPS has been working extraordinarily hard and in partnership with superintendents across the state to press our state government to restore education funding to our schools and ensure our students and our educators receive the supports and compensation they deserve.

The statewide teachers association, the Colorado Education Association, is planning a statewide rally of educators on Friday, April 27, to advocate for greater state funding and expects that many of our teachers will participate. As such, we have been working with our teachers on a plan that will have as minimal an impact as possible on our students and families.

DPS has decided to schedule an early release day on Friday, April 27. The planned early release will not impact student meals. We are committed to feeding every child, every day, so bagged lunches will be available for every student on April 27.

The planned early release day will not impact the African-American Young Ladies’ Summit or the 34th Annual Shakespeare Festival. The Shakespeare Festival will follow its regular schedule. Please note an important correction – Shakespeare participants will have transportation back to the school from the festival.  Parents will need to pick their students up at the school between 1:30 pm and 2:00 pm.

Our schedule for Friday, April 27:
Park Hill will have a normal start time of 7:55 am.  We will dismiss at 11:45 am (3 hours earlier than normal).  Transportation will remain in place for students who require it at 11:45 am.

  • Our cafeteria will still provide lunch for students.

ECE and Kindergarten schedule:
Our ECE afternoon class will be cancelled on April 27. Our Kindergarten classes will release at 11:45 am with the rest of the school.

Afterschool and enrichment activities:
We strongly ask that parents pick up their students at 11:45 am, as the building will be understaffed and teachers will not be in attendance.  However, if you absolutely cannot accommodate this one-time request, Mr. Burdette will have a team at the school to supervise students until the normal dismissal time of 2:45 pm. This will likely consist of watching a movie in the auditorium or playing outside.

  • All Enrichment classes are cancelled.
  • Discovery Link will have its program starting at 2:45 pm, as per normal schedule.

If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at 720-424-4910 or at
